Yoga for Health and Well-Being
Yoga is a holistic practice aimed at bringing harmony to your body, mind and spirit. The asanas, or postures not only develop flexibility and strength, they also tone the organs, regulate the hormones, and soothe the nervous system. But, what really sets yoga apart from other forms of exercise is that it develops awareness. Each yoga posture is designed to teach you to spread your attention through all parts of the body simultaneously.
As you develop this ability to extend your awareness throughout the body, this overall awareness begins to be carried over into your daily life. Your attention begins to be fixed on the present moment, rather than the past or the future. This sense of awareness and appreciation for the present moment begins to add up to a more positive overall outlook on life. You begin to feel brighter and more alert which leads to a sense of contentment and joy. You also begin to observe your thoughts and emotions.
As you become more of an observer of your physical and emotional state you become less of a victim of your worries and fears. Once you begin to feel more in control of your internal state, the world around you begins to feel more harmonious and less threatening. As thoughts emerge, you can assess whether or not they are beneficial to your health and wellness. You can then decide to change the direction of your thought patterns from a harmful pattern to a more healthful pattern. This can really help to eliminate the tendency to worry, which is a major cause of stress.
The beautiful thing about yoga is that this transformation occurs through the physical practice of the postures. As you practice you do not have to apply any theory, the postures themselves bring about the internal change. This is the amazing gift of yoga.

steadiness of intelligence and benevolence of spirit."
